Introduction –Shangri La Project in Sri Lanka

Here, we would like to emphasis why we have selected the Hotel industry & a country like Sri Lanka to invest newest hotel of Hong Kong-based Shangri-La Asia Limited.

Sri Lanka’s shell-shocked tourist industry has been devastated by the civil war, with the greatest damage when the terrorist made a dramatic switch in strategy in the group’s 30-year-old battle with government forces. In a series of strikes at targets in the capital, the terrorist transported the war from the northern to heart of the country - to the capital of Colombo.

The Tourism Industry as a Career

However, with the meteoric rise of tourism immediately after the war, there is tremendous interest and enthusiasm for the tourism industry. Suddenly, almost overnight, the tourism industry has been transformed into a vibrant and exiting industry.

“The tourist arrivals to Sri Lanka are expected to reach the 600,000 mark this year, exceeding the highest number of tourist arrivals recorded which was 566,202 in 2004. India, UK, Germany, the Middle East, the Maldives, France, Australia, Canada, USA and the Netherlands were the top ten tourist generating countries to Sri Lanka during the period January to August 2010. These countries accounted for 72 .95 percent of total tourist arrivals to the country during the period.

The Project details

Six acres of Government land facing the Galle Face Green promenade, a prominent landmark in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

The development will be a multi-use complex with high end retailing, deluxe apartments and a 500-key luxury hotel rooms to open in early 2014 and the purchase marks the entry of the hotel group into Sri Lanka, often referred to as 'The Pearl of the Indian Ocean.

Apart from that, Shangri La is also planning to develop a second property, a 300-key city resort on approximately 100 acres of land in Hambantota, on the southern coast of Sri Lanka to open in 2013.
