Every year thousands of people join the military with hopes and desires to serve our country. Every year, thousands of military veterans either retire or separate from the military after serving and helping to protect the United States of America and other countries. Many people join the armed forced for many reasons, school, an opportunity to travel the world and most importantly, an opportunity to make a difference in this world by protecting the country. Serving in the military is sometimes a tradition for some and sometimes they are the first in their families. Military personnel give up a lot, are underpaid and are over worked and at times not appreciated. When military personnel separate from the Armed Forces, they expect to find assistance with finding a job or assistance with education and disabilities. The place that many people tend to turn to when they retire or separate from the military is the Veteran Affairs (VA) Center. The VA provides veterans with a ton of benefits including education and medical benefits. Like every program that sets out to be positive, there are some flaws in it as well. To talk about the flaws, we must first learn of the benefits associated with these programs.

History of the VA system. The United States has the most wide-ranging system of assistance for veterans of any nation in the world. This benefits system traces its roots back to 1636, when the Pilgrims of Plymouth Colony were at war with the Pequot Indians. The Pilgrims passed a law which stated that disabled soldiers would be supported by the colony. The establishment of the Veterans Administration came in 1930 when Congress authorized the President to consolidate and coordinate Government activities affecting war veterans. The three component agencies became bureaus within the Veterans Administration. Brigadier General Frank T.
