iLab1 Review Questions
1. What is the difference between a main summary task and a summary task?
A main summary task represents the entire project and summary tasks to represent the phases of the project.
2. On the View Tab, what does the Outline button with plus and minus signs do?
The plus sign changes the major timescale into days and the minor timescale changes into six hour increments. The minus sign changes the major timescale into months and the minor timescale into three days increments.
3. What is a milestone?
A milestone is a significant event in a project that occurs at a point in time. The milestone schedule shows only major segments of work; it represents first, rough-cut estimates of time, cost, and resources for the project.
4. What predefined report can you not make changes to the header and footer?
The Project Summary report.
5. Give a real-world example of
a) A successor task requiring lead time
Lead time basically means getting a head start; if you had a task that was supposed to start after the previous one ended you could decide to overlap them. As long as the project allows it you can make that task start day be also the previous task last day instead of waiting for it to be completed in order to begin.
b) A successor task requiring lag time
Lag time creates a delay, or gap, in the task schedule that can lengthen the project duration. For example, if I specify a lag time of one day, the successor task begins one day after the predecessor task ends. Instead of the successor task starting at the end of the predecessor, the successor task would start the day after.
