1. Draw the R Chart and X bar for Mango Salt content

R-bar Control Chart

Given Values:-

R-bar:- 0.87

D3 = 0.076

D4 = 1.92

LCL = D3*R-bar = 0.06612

UCL = D4*R-bar = 1.67388

X-bar Control Chart

Given Values:-

CL = 13.13

R-bar = 0.87

A2 = 0.419

LCL = CL-A2*R-bar = 13.13 – 0.36453 = 12.76547

UCL = CL+A2*R-bar = 13.13 + 0.36453 = 13.49453

2. What are your interpretations about the process, from each of the above charts? Comment on the specific observations and probable causes, if you find that the process is not in control.

Observations:-

1. The X- charts clearly signifies here that the salt level is exceeding the UCL every 7th day of the week. R chart also shows a similar pattern and a value of 0.3412 is high for sigma that shows high variability from the process.

2. The variations are occurring in a cycle that the pattern is same in a week salt level increasing every 7th day.

Recommendations:-

1. Since the salt is added at the mixing stage all the factors which can be controlled should be investigated.

Probable Causes:-

1. May be the company is stopping the production for maintenance purpose once a week and then sudden start of the salt mixing process may result in uneven quantity of salt addition in the first instance.

2. There may be a holiday on every 7th day of the week and may be company is using the contractual labour for its operation on that particular day so the difference in the expertise of the labour may result into such a result.

3. Draw the R Chart and X bar for Mango Acidity.
