Abstract

The emergency department serves nearly 130000 patients a year. Many patients enter the E.R. for several reasons, before they are seen they have to register in with the E.R. admitting. In this paper we will learn what it is like to work in the admitting part of the E.R. and how the others in this department work together.

Among the Healthcare World

Each year several people end up in the emergency room for some type of injury or illness, ranging from minor to serious ones. Of these injury's and illnesses, the number seen in the E.R. is about 120,000 per year roughly. When it comes to the care in treating people that end up in the E.R.; all staff members have and must maintain the utmost respect and integrity to ensure the E.R. runs smoothly at all times. Even the patients do not realize what each member of the department does to ensure the emergency room run smooth at all times. Each member of the staff working in the Emergency Room has a task that they need to fulfill throughout their shift while on duty. When performing these duties; DISCRETION is always key. In addition, staff members, no matter what their roll is; should never forget; the patient always comes first. So with that said, some of the members working in the emergency room can include; Admitting, Head-Nurses, Physicians, Specialists, Nursing-Aids and Housekeeping. Like stated earlier; all these people maintain a positive role in the over-all care in treating patients that visit the Emergency Rooms across the Unites States.

As a student myself going to school for Long Term Administrator, I had the chance to interview Cherish Kast. She is twenty-two years old and a student herself working on her four year degree in Teaching. Her background in dealing with patients include a five year job at Hillsdale Community Health Center in E.R. Admitting. Her reason for leaving this position was due to...
