Introduction

Voice over IP (VoIP) is a still emerging technology that has a huge potential. The main idea behind it is that it allows voice calls to be made over the Internet, so it requires a broadband Internet connection. This leads to some special conditions for VoIP to work properly, but there are exactly these conditions that make it so promising and efficient. This technology did not reach its full potential yet, but taking a look at the current evolution of the events, it will be more and more used by companies.

VoIP will be explained for having a better overview of what it can be used for and what advantages and eventual disadvantages it has. For being more efficient in presenting VoIP, a specific case will be considered, using the example of a company (Impact Inc.). This company has, and still uses an already old network and should consider implementing VoIP for better performances. As a result, studying VoIP as related to the needs of Impact Inc. is important...
