What is needed for a company to become a High Performance Organization?

What makes an organization a great institution for employment? If you were to ask any individual, the results would be different. Some individuals will say that their wages give them job satisfaction. Others, however, are satisfied with name recognition and the opportunity for growth. What is expected from the organization varies, which begs the question; does the organization culture form the individual or does the individual create the culture of the organization? Studies and research have found that each individual believes that some organizations are great to work at and others are not. In this paper, the focus will be on what would make a high performance organization (HPO). We will look at seven principles that have found to identify a HPO and discuss them.

When there is a discussion of a HPO, a definition or description must be included. High performance organizations are defined as the organization understanding that the employee is viewed as an asset. And both the employee and the organization must be in a partnership for any corporate success. As stated in one of the readings, “one can’t succeed without the other” (Lawler, E., 2003). If you look at numerous articles, they all agree that based on researches that the direct success of any organization is its strong commitment to management having a strong relationship with their employee’s. Unfortunately, many companies have not put their people first. These particular organizations place an importance on “treating their business as portfolios of assets to be bought and sold in an effort to find the right competitive niche” (Pfeifer & Veiga, 1999).
