Wellington Energy, Inc.

Wellington Energy, Inc. is a unionized subsidiary of Wellington Power Corporation. This subsidiary of Wellington Power Corporation is contracted to install automatic meter reading systems in North America. Automatic meter reading systems collect, organize, and manage electric, gas and water usage data. Therefore, instead of having someone come and read your meters to determine your usage these new automatic meter readers do it automatically and cut down the labor costs for these companies. Wellington Energy provides automatic meter reading designs and installation services for these new emerging meters.

According to Wellington Energy’s website they have been selected by Pacific Gas and Electric Company in California to take charge of the supply chain, work asset management, mete-module installation, and development portions of the $2.2 billion SmartMeter program rollout. Employees that are employed by Wellington Energy are part of the international brotherhood of electrical workers union. Since Pacific Gas and Electric Company is based out of California this union is also.

Benefits of Joining a Union

There are many benefits to any organization that might join a union. The first benefit to joining a union for the employees of an organization is that they will have increased wages, better healthcare options, a better retirement package, and safer working conditions. All of this however depends on the union’s bargaining agreements. Another reason or benefit to an organization becoming unionized is job security. The reason that unions have these benefits is because they set up contracts with the organizations that they work for. In these contracts union workers are guaranteed more rights than nonunion workers.
