Spread Spectrum Transmission Comparison
Introduction to Spread Spectrum Transmission
Guidelines
Spread Spectrum Transmission is a way to transmit a much wider signal than the minimum bandwidth required. Spread Spectrum Transmission used to improve security and privacy, prevent jamming, and noise. This allows for lower power consumption because tit reduces the effect of noise on the transmission.
Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum (FHSS)
Frequency hopping spread spectrum is a method of transmitting radio signals by rapidly switching frequency. This method is mainly use in the military, because FHSS provides protection against eavesdropping and jamming.
Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum (DSSS)
DSSS is a transmission technology where a data signal is combined with a higher data rate bit sequence, or chipping code, that divides the user data according to a spreading ratio. Benefits of DSSS include resistance to intended or unintended jamming, sharing of a single channel among multiple users, and a reduced chance that a transmission will be intercepted. Comparison between FHSS and DSSS
Technique Advantages Disadvantages
FHSS Good performance in multipath environmentsEasy to implement Long latency timeShort outdoor range Lower overall data throughput |
DSSS DSSS provide greater throughput than with FHSSMore resistance to fading and multi-path effects Difficult to implement.
Guidelines
FHSS is good in multi path environment, and easy to implement but the security is less than DSSS. DSSS is a great technique and provides maximum security but little bit difficult to implement. DSSS provide greater throughput than with FHSS.
