In Cham Company every year we hold international fair that is specialized in production lines for granite, ceramic and cement products. we rent a piece of land from the Syrian fair organization , divide it into booths and sell them to local and international companies to exhibit their latest products. As a partner and executive manager, I was the decision maker and the laws enactor in the company. My power range was big ; however it was limited by the cultural and gender differences and due to the rejection for women in power by some employees. Those limitations never formed brier between me and my goals. There were specific techniques I used to work around those differences. Staff meeting was one of those successful techniques and an effective way of communication between the employees. It was secret tool that gave the employees the chance to express themselves, made them focus on self-improvement, and released the tension of having female boss. Working as a female executive manager for international company which is specialized in organizing international trade shows, was challenging experience for both my company and I. In Syria, trade show industry is a tough and interesting field in which men are the dominant party. Therefore, it was hard for me to be accepted by the male colleagues and employees as female decision maker. The rejection was due to the cultural and gender differences. Cultural differences because woman are not recognized as productive part of the society especially when they communicate in a feminine way. They are looked at as lower status workers, they take the jobs that men can't or don't want to do. A gender difference is because the old fashion mentalities that link successful leadership to males only. They can't accept women to be at higher status compare to them.
