Why Is Healthcare Important

Many people don’t think about health insurance until they need it. Health insurance is important because it provide people with an affordable way for them and the ones they love to stay healthy and get medical care when ill. It also protects them and their family from the high cost of health care.

Who won’t want to be healthy and get medical care when ill? In order for people to be healthy they would need to see their physician for screening exams such as annual physicals, mammograms, prostate exams but with health insurance, once condition are diagnosed, they are more likely to receive treatment. If people don’t have health insurance, they won’t have screening exams done and will not receive treatment. So therefore, they will be less healthy overall, and when they do receive medical care, it will be later in the disease process. For example, I had a sister that was sick for over a year and she couldn’t afford to see a doctor and when she did go to the hospital they would do as much as they could because she didn’t have any health insurance. It took her going to another hospital and they was able to run the test on her that the other hospital couldn’t and they found out that she had stage 4 cancer. At that point they gave her 3 months to live. If she would have had insurance and had regularly checkups done then maybe the doctors could have found her cancer at any earlier stage and she could have receive treatment. The sad fact is that many people who do not have health insurance simply don’t get medical care they need and not as healthy.

Health insurance helps to protect people from high health care cost, especially those related to chronic medical conditions or the need for hospitalization. People should get health insurance for the same reason they have auto insurance or homeowners insurance to protect their savings and income.
