The Greatest Challenge Facing the Philippines in the Future

In the course of the Paleolithic Era, the first people of the Philippine archipelago existed were the Nomads. They don’t have permanent home and the number one nomadic way of surviving was hunting and gathering.  Up to the period of the New Stone Age, Metal Age and Age of Contact and Trade where our ancestors have learned to use fire, domestication of animals, fishing, agriculture and trading. Then time suddenly traveled fast-forward and the demands of a developing world disturbingly increase as well. And to face this competitive world of ours, we need power – manpower. There was no competition to resources until this advanced world was filled with different social issues particularly the dearth of employment to many Filipino people. The National Statistics Office also known as NSO reported last August of 2007, Philippines had a population of 88.57 million and according to CIA, Central Intelligence Agency, as of July 2011 of the current year, Philippines is estimated to have a population of 101,833,938 with a growth rate of 1.903%. From being 14th country with more than 50 million inhabitants, Philippines is currently ranked 12th. The Philippine population is continuously growing but the most alarming issue of our country is the employment of every individual age 15 years and over. In July 2010, the population of 15 years and over was 60,928,000 million and NSO reported, July of the present year, the population went up to 62.0 million. However, Labor Force Survey (LFS) stated that only 37.1 million of the population is employed with an employment rate from 93.0% down to 92.9%. Our population keeps increasing and at the same time decreasing the employment rate. The rate may actually be positive or negative but in our case, Philippines cannot cope with the constantly increasing growth hence, leads to additional burden for our country to adapt to the changing needs of its people for infrastructure such as...
