Abstract

I will begin to define the word “Art” and then I will explain the difference between eight types of art. I will provide an example and photo of each form of art type and explain each of them.

The Eight Types of Art

After looking up the word “Art” in the dictionary, I noticed there several definitions for “art”. These definitions include subparts of art like pop art, or modern art and not “art” by itself. Art can be categorized as the processes and products of human skill and imagination.

Painting is the first type of art form I will discuss. After some research I found a painter by the name of Salvador Dali. Painting is a process of placing color to a certain surface, generally a canvas background. When painting just started originating, several painters had to use colors which they could get from the earth. Several items would be gathered and then would be grinded down into a powder and then mixed with some type of liquid and this would make their paint. Salvador Dali uses oil paints on canvas. For this type of art I chose the painting, The Persistence of Memory 1932-1934. In this painting the drooping pocket watches suggest that time is irrelevant while one is sleeping.

The next form of art is sculpture this type of are made with several different types of mediums. Items that can be used are clay, marble, and frozen water (ice) to make beautiful sculptures of art. The ice sculpture titled “Sail of Love” which is an abstract piece is the sculpture that I chose.

The third for of art it Architecture. Architecture is a process of designing and constructing buildings. There are several items that influence an architect in their design of a building.
