The Journey of African Americans

Throughout this article I will be reporting on my point of view of African Americans. With the saying “we shall overcome” African Americans have come so far but still have a long way to go to overcome the past. Still striving to achieve more African Americans are progressing and rising day to day. It was one point when African Americans were hated by whites and disrespected by many on a regular basis. African Americans and whites now live understanding that each racial group is equal in addition with being equal they should try to live in peace. This understanding was accomplished by the civil rights movement that took place in nineteen fifty-five till nineteen sixty-eight.

Not only was it accomplished by this movement but by the determined individuals that wanted equality for African American people and people as a whole in general. African Americans have had many experiences good and bad. With the bad out weighing the good African Americans have made history during the process even though they had so much negativity to deal with. The process was long, hard and continues to evolve as the African American population continues to grow. Although many of these movements did not fully achieve their goal they did lead to improvements of legal rights for African Americans and other nationalities.

An example of a bad experience that turned into a good one is slavery. Slavery taught African Americans how to survive and maintain in the worst conditions. It was a very remarkable transformation once slavery no longer existed to see how African Americans could start anew. The civil war separated slave holding and guarantied freedom for blacks in America. After bloodshed and suffering of the civil war the constitution added the fourteenth amendment ensuring citizenship with rights and responsibilities to everyone in the United...
