1. One of the potential problems mentioned in this chapter with gathering information requirements by observing potential system users is that people may change their behavior when observed. What could you do to overcome this potentially confounding factor in accurately determining information requirements?

1. As an analyst, I would observe the system’s users unnoticeably. This would allow me to view the users without anyone changing behaviors due to the observance. Basically, this would minimize any behaviors being affected. I could use hidden cameras. This would allow the users to act naturally. I would not tell them when they are being watched but of course tell them they will be observed throughout the use of the system. To make up for any data that I could not collect from this method I would also conduct other data collecting activities.

3. Suppose you were asked to lead a JAD session. List ten guidelines you would follow in playing the proper role of a JAD session leader.

3. If I were asked to lead a JAD session I would use the best guidelines as the leader. First I would hold sessions at a location away from work and with limited distractions then set an agenda and stay neutral on issues. I would establish rules that would need to be followed by all people involved in the session. I would make sure to identify and address critical political and organizational issues, establish the executive sponsor as the tiebreaker and make sure attendance and participation are mandatory. Most importantly I would stress that all participants are equal regardless of job code and make sure the facilitator is fully trained and prepared.
