Survival Guide

Take a deep breathe, close your eyes and envision yourself holding the degree you have worked so hard to achieve. I tell myself this advice every Monday morning before I start my class assignments and this is the same advice I would tell my future self.

In order to survive any and all distance learning classes, every student needs to understand the proper use of the internet and course forms. There are four course forms that, The University of Phoenix uses; main, chat room, course materials and individual form each of these have a specific purpose. The main form is where the facilitator will post discussion question(s) that each student is required to post on. The best advice, for discussion question(s) try to complete them the first part of week, to ensure to get credit for participation and answering the questions. Chat room is the area students can post off topic information from discussion and reply to each other. Course materials is were materials for the course is stored as the course calendar, course syllabus, and other materials the facilitator post. The first week of each course print of the syllabus and calendar to help plan out the each week. During week each check off the assignments as you complete them this will help to ensure you are completing the correct assignment every week, unlike your past self. Last is the individual form, this is a private forum between each student and facilitator; the facilitator will post assignments and feedback in this form. When communicating in distance learning setting it is important to know the appropriate tone. In a traditional class setting when participating in a class discussion student can use facial expressions, hand gestures and tone of voice to place emphasis on important areas. To place this emphasis in discussion questions it can be achieved by using cap locks on a few words, use of icons and by avoiding using the word you.
