Human Resource Management

Job analysis is the process by which data is collected to determine job requirements, duties and relevant important information within the job. It is used to collect data on a job and not on an individual that is completing the job. The purpose of job analysis is to establish and document the job readiness for training, selection, compensation and performance appraisal. For this project we have started from the beginning of job analysis and progressed through the steps to complete the process.

We began the process by writing tasks statements. Tasks statements are used to indentify an action and the result of those actions. We completed a worksheet where we identified the following; what action was being performed, for whom/what were the actions directed, how the action is being preformed and why is it being performed. We then used that chart to complete tasks statements for the Human resource receptionist. The next step was creating KSA statements or Knowledge, Skills and Ability statements. For this part of the project we also completed a worksheet that identified the task statement, knowledge (cognitive skill), skill (learned) and ability (competence). Then we used this chart to complete KSA statements for this information.

Once we have completed the task and KSA statements we were able to complete the job description quite easily. It was a simple process of taking the task and KSA statements and putting them together to complete a job description for the Human Resource receptionists’ position. A job description can be used for many purposes within the company. It can be used for recruitment, selection, training programs, compensation decisions, job evaluations and employee performance appraisals. It needs to be well written and effectively summarize the position.
