Trends in Business Communication

Over the past decade the method of business communication has evolved tremendously. There was a time when the only means of business communication was face-to-face verbal, physical written correspondence, phone. With the advent of the internet, corporation have continuously look for more efficient ways to communicate by leveraging technology.

Business communication comes in various forms. With email serving as one of the core protocols for communication beyond the face-to face in many business establishments. Email give companies the ability to reach an audience in remote locations. My company relies heavily on email communication to share information about everything from policy, HR announcements, payroll information, meeting notes and frequently asked questions. The value of the email communication capability is immeasurable. Our company is able to save money by sending these types of updates through email. Without it, they would have to schedule face-to-face meetings or send out office correspondence through the US postal service. The downside the the before mentioned traditional methods is cost and inconvenience. Schedule meetings with a company of our size would require large conference rooms or meeting halls. Employees would have to also make travel arrangements considering many of the employees work around the world. The cost of such travel would be very expensive. In addition to the cost associate with travel, the company would loose money due to the fact that employees would be pulled from the field. The inconvenience of travel would for such communication would also take employees away from there family and could frustrate many who feel such travel is unnecessary given the technology of today. As for US Postal mail, this method is still a viable option yet expensive over time. US postal mail is still a good option for business communication for certain things like private letters, or letters that require a return signature.
