Stroop Test

ABSTRACT: The objective of this experiment is to know the amount of time it takes to name the color of the ink of written color words. This was tested by recording how much time it takes for a test subject to name the color of the words in List #1 and in List #2. In List #1 the color of the word’s ink is the same of the written color words, and in List #2 the color of the word’s ink is different to the written color words. It was observed that test subjects took more time naming the colors of the words in List #2 and less time naming the color of the words in List #1..

OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this experiment is to determine if a test subject performance time changes when the color of the ink doesn’t match the written color words. It is predicted that all the test subjects will name the color of a word faster when the color of the ink matches the written color of the word.

MATERIALS: 1 list of words in which the color of the ink is the same as the written color, 1 list of words in which the color of the ink is different from the written color, a stop watch, pencil and paper.

PROCEDURE:

1. Name the list with the words that match the color List#1.

2. Name the list with the words that do not match the color List#2.

3. Find a quite place with no distractions.

4. Instruct the test subject to name the color of the ink of the words in List #1 as fast as possible with no mistakes

5. Record how much time the test subject took to name the color of the words.

6. Instruct the test subject to name the color of the ink of the words in List #2 as fast as possible with no mistakes.

7. Record how much time the test subject took to name the color of the words.

8. Repeat this procedure 10 more times with different test subjects.
