Energy resource and trend of energy use of Thailand and the trend in the next 10 years

According to figure 1, there was a huge increase in energy consumption of Thailand. Oil consumption showed a slight increase from just over 600 million barrel of crude oil in 2000 to above 700 million barrel of crude oil in 2006. There was an increase in amount of natural gas from nearly 500 million barrel of crude oil in 2000 to above 700 million in 2006. There are no significant change in coal and renewable.

Oil was mainly use in transportation and this sector will not change much because the mass transit will help to reduce the oil consumption in this sector. In the next 10 years the consumption of oil will not change significantly. Other factor is the price of oil keep increasing all during the recent year. Thailand has to import oil every year and the government will try to reduce the amount of oil.

Coal is used in the industrial and electric sectors. In the past, Thai people did not concern about environment and health. Because of that, many companies released so much emission to the atmosphere and river. Fortunately in the last recent years, there are so many people and NGOs who care about those things. Thailand is not a rich country then we have to rely on the cheap energy. The answer is coal. In the next 10 years, the consumption will rise because Thailand could not afford another source.

The most of renewable energy in Thailand came from Hydro power plant. It was about 70 percent of renewable production. I think the production of hydro power plant will not increase because of NGOs. The production of another type of renewable energy will be increased but there will not be a sharp increase. Renewable energy is very small unit compare to the gas turbine.
