Home Schooling Can Be For Anyone

The perception of home schooling has changed over the years because of the rise of bullying and the parent’s realization that the child’s education comes first. Years ago if a child was home schooled they were considered to be the “outcast”. In the eight years between 1999 through 2007 there was a 74% increase in the enrollment of homeschooled children. That is an outstanding number and has since grown even larger. There are several factors that go into this new alarming number. The main reason, bullying. Bullying has become such an epidemic that the past couple of years that so many parents have chosen to have their child home schooled. Children with learning disabilities or disabilities in general are other reasons parents are turning to home school. A child with disabilities is no stranger to becoming bullied, either. Sadly all these reasons tie into the other, however no matter what your reason may be as parents choosing home schooling, just remember you are doing what is best for your child.

Nowadays bullying seems to be the main reason a parent has decided to home school their child. Research shows that bullying seems to decrease if a child tells a parent or a teacher, however not many children want to be known as the “tattle tale”. This of course results in the continuing of bullying. There are signs you can look for in your child that could help you to realize that he/she is experiencing bullying. If your child does not want to attend school, have a decreased appetite, stomach pains, anxiety or depression. Your child will have to either talk to you about the bullying or if you suspect it talk with them about coming to the conclusion of home schooling. As parents of a child experiencing bullying, before you take your child out of school and switch to home schooling you need to sit down and talk to the teacher or principal.
