HP was started in 1939 as the Hewlett-Packard Company, and the name was later shortened to HP for marketing proposes. The corporate headquarters for HP is located in Palo Alto, California. HP is the world's largest informational technology (IT) company, with revenue totaling $114.6 billion for fiscal 2009. HP's 2009 Fortune 500 ranking was number nine. (HP Corporate , 2010) HP is a worldwide corporation that has many external factors such as money, time, policy changes, technology, and competition. The internal factors that HP faces are money, money, time, policy changes, technology, training, and turn-over. This paper will discuss each of the four functions of management as it applies to globalization, technology, ethics, diversity, innovation, and delegation of HP.

HP Globalization

When thinking of globalization several companies quickly come to mind as being successful global leaders. Companies such as General Electric, Hewlett-Packard, and Dell are leaders in the charge of globalization. In order for companies to compete in this ever-changing global environment, they must expand business practices overseas in order to maintain a competitive edge. Consumers overseas have increasing incomes and an increased demand for US products and services. One of HP’s seven pillars within the corporate objective is globalization. Within the pillar of globalization comes a great deal of planning. Currently HP is in over 170 countries around the world. They explore how technologies and services can help people and companies address problems and challenges and realize their possibilities. (HP Corporate , 2010) HP is known for their “go green” initiative, they received a ranking from Newsweek magazine by being the “Greenest Big Company in America”. They have done so much in greenhouse gas reductions, materials innovation, and recycling initiatives. (Hewlett Packard, 2010). With this initiative comes a great amount of planning and strategic organizing and leading.
