Consumption Patterns

Consumption patterns can vary greatly depending on the economy and events taking place in the world around us. Like most items in America when something’s availability is threatened people stock up in fear they will never have the chance to purchase it again. In the wake of the massacre that happened in Newtown Connecticut, liberal America has decided to blame the tragedy on a weapon, specifically the sporting rifle, aka the assault rifle. Their plan is to ban scary looking weapons from being purchased by instituting more strict background checks, magazine capacity limitations, and preventing the sale of guns that appear similar to those used by the military and police.

Guns in general have a place in American life, they have been around since the beginning and even then our fore fathers noticed their importance, which lead to the creation of the 2nd amendment. Guns are necessities, their usefulness is proven day in, and day out through sports, hunting, and being utilized by law enforcement and the military around the world for the purpose of ensuring our protection from individuals who would want to cause harm. Looking outside of their main utility of protection, guns are used to hunt which provides food for families. By banning sporting rifles we will be effectively erasing not only traditions, but the skills that accompany hunting which is a necessary survival skill.

Over the past 2 months since the incident in Newtown, CN, assault rifles have been “selling out across America, as customers seek to purchase them before the government can vote on bans in the wake of mass shootings” (Morgan, 2012). Rifles that are selling today for $2100 today could have easily been had for $1000 before talks of banning them began.
