Patagonia is a company driven by its environmentally friendly products, not by commercial efficiency or total sales revenue. Patagonia strives to manufacture products with their key core values in mind, not with the intent to be profitable or even to provide customers with great service. Their main core values are quality, environmental impact, and innovation.

The products manufactured by Patagonia were typically simple, durable, functional, and in most cases, multifunctional. The quality of their products was tested in real-world settings by ambassadors that would field test the equipment and clothing to determine if the products met standards and criteria upheld by the company over time.

Environmentally, Patagonia strongly believed in and was deeply committed to “do no harm.” Their ultimate goal was to create the best quality products while creating the the least impact to the environment. One deliverable that stemmed from this way of thinking was the decision made by Patagonia to manufacture all of its cotton products from organically produced cotton, despite the financial losses experienced.

Patagonia was known as a pioneer company in the clothing and outdoor equipment industry, which made developing innovative ways to do business very important to them. Creative ideas were always welcomed from their design team, which were then tested by engineers. Coming up with several different ideas, such as recycled polyester fleece, moisture wicking fabric, and chlorine-free wool-lined wetsuits are examples of how Patagonia was the industry leader in these areas.
