Etisalat believes that the TRA and Telecom operators can play a
vital role in reducing GHG emissions in the UAE , where TRA and
Telecom Operators can cooperate in setting up and
implementing transparent strategies that lead to Identifying,
quantifying, controlling and reducing the GHG emission of the
ICT sector, which will reflect in turn on other industries and
services dependant on or related to this sector, and ultimately
will ripple through the whole country.
Moreover, we believe that TRA can play a supreme role by
considering the below suggestions:
Q1 What do you see as
the roles of the TRA
and Telecom operators
in reducing GHG
emissions in the UAE?
1. TRA does not limit its focus on the licensees but extend it to
ICT sector and all stakeholders which include consumers,
government operations as well as businesses.
2. TRA to study, consult and ultimately issue policy, guidelines
and where necessary, regulation covering areas such as E Waste; Facility Management; Building Design Standards;
Home & Households; and encourage Innovation.
3. TRA would need to create a more favourable environment for
investment and entrepreneurship in the Green ICT sector
trough transparent and consistent regulatory framework.
4. TRA to work closely with the UAE federal and local
government environment ministries to consult and support
green practices which can be aided and enha nced through
effective ICT deployments.
5. The role of the ICT industry is to innovate and ultimately
bring to market the latest, competitively priced and
appropriate solutions to help business, consumer and
government customers reduce their GHG emissions an d
increase overall efficiency.
