My dad once told me, “once you find your passion, your whole world will change.” I spent ten years of my life searching for that passion, trying every club in school, learning every instrument, researching every career in existence. I became exasperated and felt like a failure. It wasn’t until I stepped into my newspaper production class my junior year, that I realized that my dad was right; my world was about to change.

After I began writing articles and receiving compliments from both my fellow staff members and my adviser, I began to gain confidence in myself. Soon after, I became the editor-in-chief. I was convinced to join the school’s University Interscholastic League Journalism team, and won 12 awards in Headline Writing, Feature Writing, News Writing, and Editorial Writing, including 2nd place in both district and regional competitions, and fourth place at state in Headline Writing.

I want to take journalism to the next level. I want to be the voice of the public. I dream of being a role model that my future children can look up to and be proud of. Most importantly, I want to write; I need to write. I’m meant for big things; I know I am.

Winning this scholarship would mean that I would be one step closer to the future that is so close to my heart. It would make a higher education possible. This scholarship means that I can, and will, make a difference in the world of tomorrow.
