1. Competitive Coup in the In-Flight Magazine (page 131). Please read the case in page 131 carefully and discuss your solutions.

The most prudent decision she can make to herself and others in this situation is to return the document to the airline. She should also inform the company ethicist and her supervisors of this incident. She should also go ahead with the research project. Even though she has answers to her questions there may still be additional information she is unaware of.

The results of these actions are quite simple. She will know that she has done the correct thing while showing her supervisors, the airline personnel, and her competitors that she works for an up front organization and that she conducts herself in a highly ethical manner. Law and regulation are not the only factors that should influence our decisions. As an example, there was a recent incident with Pepsi and Coke where one organization informed the other organization of a possible breach of business secrets. These organizations both showed how a responsible organization conducts business.

2. Free Waters in Miro Beach: Boaters Inc, versus City Government (page 131). Please read the case in page 132 and discuss your solutions.

In this case the City Government made almost every possible mistake they could have. Their decision to conduct their own research may have been the best option for the city but they should have verified that the persons conducting the research were qualified to do so. This is where the initial problems came from. However, once this issue was broached in public the City then proceeded to choice very unethical options. All decisions should have been made in an honest and open manner to resolve the issue as quickly and ethically as possible. The result of better choices in this scenario would have led to an overall reduced cost and a better relation with patrons of the city.
