(1) THE BUSINESS CASE:

My business plan is to establish a poultry farm to produce broiler chicken in Sylhet, Bangladesh. The aim of this project is to buy chicks from supplier, fed them in sheds until they became ready to sell and supply them according to orders. However hotels restaurants and hotels in Sylhet will be the target market of my product. The project aims at:

1. Setting up two unit chicken sheds

2. Buying one-day-old chicks from supplier

3. feeding them inside the shed until they are ready to sell

4. Collecting orders and

5. Delivering them direct from farm to the order points

Before discussing my project I would like to give a brief sketch of poultry sector of Bangladesh and its business prospect in Sylhet.

Generally there are two types of chicken generated in poultry industry, one is layer chicken, for egg production and another one is broiler chicken for meat. There is a vast use of broiler chicken in Bangladesh to meet the demand of meat and protein supply of the general people. Poultry business is very popular in Bangladesh because of its social and economic environment. There are there are about 50000 poultry farm in Bangladesh. Basically, less capital, small space, and good profit give rate made this business more popular.

Poultry business in Sylhet is not a new business. There are many poultry farms available in different areas but a very few are producing broiler chicken in big farm in a professional way. The total population of Sylhet is 78,99,816 and most of the people have high consumption power than any other district of Bangladesh. People of this area like to eat chicken not only in occasion but also in their daily meal. There is a huge demand of broiler chicken in Sylhet, which is mostly supplied from other districts. The demand and consumption of meat in Sylhet indicates a prospective market and business idea for broiler chicken farming.
