Light Rail Transit coming to Honolulu

"Freeway to Rail Transit"

Department of Transportation (DOT) faces the greatest challenges on the Island of Oahu. Congested traffic jammed pack for miles on a 3-5 lane Freeway in the early mornings and late afternoon. The heavy traffic has made it possible for DOT of Honolulu to consider having a "Light Rail Transit (LRT)" built to ease congestion on the Freeway. Businesses will increase, unemployment decreasing, as statistics of growth in the population increases. "Rail Transit" is Hawaii’s way for meeting public demands on a rapid transportation and brings jobs to stabilize the economy for next 15-20 years. People think this is the greatest idea having a rail transit on the Island, but I see it as a temporary fix to the problem as a band aid on a finger.

"Drivers creep eastward in afternoon H-1 traffic near the Likelike overpass. Honolulu's daily rush hours have expanded to heavy traffic all day ".

First, we see the beauty of the sunshine, receiving a cool breath of fresh air filling our lungs as we start the morning off to work in our car. Arriving at the H-1 Freeway, thousands of vehicles were at a bumper to bumper pace moving in one direction. Ever wonder why the rush-hour traffic is congested on freeways? Tim Sakahare who work for Hawaii News Now, made a statement in Directions Magazine, July 22, 2012 said, "Honolulu, Hawaii is the 10th largest city in the United States with an estimate of 953,000 people" as well as, "More than 85,000 tourists on any given day in an area constrained by mountains and sea traffic is the worst in the U.S".
