The importance of having a reliable mp3 player as a college student cannot be measured. I keep it with me all the time. Music is an enormous part of just about everyone’s life. In the past, the only way to listen to music on the go was to carry a bulky walk man cassette player, or a disc man. MP3 players have dramatically changed that situation as they are compact and able to hold literally thousands of songs. The iPod, one of the most advertised mp3 players on the market today, was created and sold by Apple Inc. The iPod is more than just an mp3 player. Ranging in colors, accessories, memory sizes, and size the iPod continues to grow and develop as customer demands change. This product is a popular item and continues to thrive in the market. Apple Inc. has continuously managed each stage of the life cycle for this product extremely well, and continues to do so with supporting features and growing accessories which meet or exceed customer demand.

When the iPod was originally introduced in October of 2001 it was hard drive based like a computer. Instead of using a memory card files were written to the internal hard drive and accessible for playback upon demand. No more fast forwarding or rewinding of a cassette tape to distract a user. Instead user could skip directly to any song they chose that was saved to the hard drive. Choosing teenagers and young adults as their marketing base, Apple Inc. focused on the iPod’s interface and ease of use to attract attention to the product. Understanding that youthful people enjoyed sleek, customizable products when choosing electronics, Apple Inc offered a large variety of colors and customizations for the iPod.
