0. MMy Key Learning from Organization Behavior II – 12PGDM120

My Expectations at the beginning of the course: Since OB I was more focused on Individual Concepts of organization behavior, my expectations logically followed to understanding Group Concepts of organization behavior like - Organization structure, Organization culture, Organization Change and Organization Conflict. I expected that OB II to make us learn how big organizations work so efficiently and effectively despite of so much complexities / conflicts at various organization levels.

My Learning from the course: Since the classes were so well-structured by you, Ma’am, that I could divide my learning under various heads which are as under:

Firstly, I learnt that an organization can itself be treated as an organism, who in order to carry its basic functions needs the proper coordination amongst its various body parts ( departments ). Eg. Brain of an organism is synonymous to Strategic Planning Unit, heart is synonymous to employees of an organization, without whom the organization cannot work etc.

Secondly, I learned about how horizontal and vertical complexities crop in with the increase in employee strength. In order to remove these complexities, organizations have to keep reorganizing their structures like Bharat Petroleum or Dell, so that the organizations can continue working efficiently and effectively. The more complex an organization becomes, the more complex its structure becomes. Then how differentiation in work, division in labor, functional specialization are done to improve the functioning of an organization. I learned that a single structure cannot be deployed for every organization. Big organizations, spread across the globe should / can follow geographic structures because of various cultures in which the organizations work.
