Write a 100- to 200-word response to each of the following questions. Provide citations for all the sources you use.

* What is discrimination? How is discrimination different from prejudice and stereotyping?

Discrimination is the denial of opportunities and equal rights to individuals and groups because of prejudice or for other arbitrary reasons, as defined in Chapter 3 of Racial and Ethnic Groups.Prejudice is a negative attitude toward an entire category of people, such as a racial or ethnic minority, as defined in Chapter 2 of Racial and Ethnic Groups.Stereotyping is putting people into unreliable, exaggerated generalizations about all members of a group that do not take individual differences into account, as defined in Chapter 2 of Racial and Ethnic Groups.Discrimination is denying rights while prejudice is having an attitude toward different groups of people and stereotyping is putting the people into the groups in the first place. It goes in an order, in a way. First you have stereotyping, which is just making the groups up in the first place. Second you have prejudice, which is having an attitude toward the groups you made up, and third, you have discrimination, which is not giving the people you are prejudice toward the same rights as everyone else has.

* What are the causes of discrimination?

Discrimination is caused by stereotyping and prejudice. As I mentioned in the last question, stereotyping leads to prejudice, which leads to discrimination. People stereotype other humans for many reasons. Social media is a major factor in that, while disasters are others. Such as 9/11. People believe that all Arabs are bad people because of a group of people who decided to do something terrible.
