PepsiCo versus Coca-Cola Refreshments

Coke or Pepsi? That is a question that is asks at all levels of society in the United States. The two companies at the core of this question are Coca-Cola Refreshments and PepsiCo. Both are manufacturers of non-alcoholic beverages and these two companies have been in competition for many years. Both companies have gone global but still maintain a profit in business in the United States. One of the reasons they have been able to stay competitive with each other is their willingness to keep up with the wishes of the consumers. In order to speculate how PepsiCo and Coca-cola Refresments would need to change in the future one must first examine their products, how their corporate culture differs, and how their culture has benefited from competition with the other.

Coca-Cola Refreshments is a beverage company. 100% of their business is beverages. This company manufactures and sells concentrates, beverage bases and syrups to bottling operations. The company owns the brands and is responsible for advertising. They have bottling partners who manufacture, package, merchandise and distribute the final branded beverages to the customers and vending partners, who then sell the products to customers like the grocery stores, restaurants, convenience stores and other places who sell beverages. These customers then sell to the consumers (us.coca-colacompany.com).

PepsiCo is a beverage and food company. 50% of their business is beverages and 50% of their business is food. PepsiCo is the company that produces the different kinds of Pepsi-Cola, Mountain Dew, Amp, Sierra Mist, Mug, SoBe, and Aquafina, Frito Lays, Tropicana, Quaker, and Gatorade. This company runs their own manufacturing, packaging, merchandising, distribution and advertising for all of their products (pepsico.com).
