Shanghai – General Motors Company announced today that the automaker and its joint ventures sold 177,339 vehicles in China in November, which represented an increase of 109.5 percent from November 2008 and set a new record for the month.

For the first 11 months as a whole, the GM family’s sales in China totaled 1,636,799 units. This was an increase of 64 percent from the same period in 2008 and a new high for the January-November period.

Shanghai GM enjoyed its best single month ever in November, as both the Buick and Chevrolet brands had all-time record sales. SAIC-GM-Wuling also had its best November sales ever. This enabled GM to continue its string of monthly sales records in China that began in January.

“We are proud of our record-setting performance,” said Kevin Wale, President and Managing Director of the GM China Group. “It validates our strategy of rolling out vehicles that are leaders in fuel economy to keep pace with the fast-changing China market. With the most diverse product offering in the market, we believe this strategy is helping us win over more customers.”

In November, Shanghai GM’s domestic sales rose 167.6 percent on an annual basis to 78,777 units. Buick sales reached 42,822 units on growth of 118 percent from November 2008. The New Regal and new LaCROSSE maintained their lead in the upper-medium segment, with new sales highs of 7,798 units and 8,002 units, respectively.

Chevrolet sales in November grew 281 percent on an annual basis to 35,789 units. It received a boost from the Cruze, Epica and Lova all having record months. The Chevrolet Cruze, which was recently awarded a maximum five stars in EuroNCAP safety tests, generated November sales of 13,880 units.

“Two of our three history-making Chevrolet models were upgraded this year,” Wale said. “The success of the Epica and Lova show that GM’s effort to continuously apply new technology to our products to satisfy customer needs is being well received.”
