Abstract

This paper is to inform our culture of a topic that is over looked by many people in society every day. This topic Single Mothers is known by many but also overlooked for the most part. Many people in society look at single mothers as hard working individual parents, but other people look down upon single mothers as not being able to raise children successfully. This essay will give an insight of the topic of single mothers. It will also cover prior research, the possible effects on the children, society’s view and many struggles that come with being a single mother.

In the recent years, there has been a considerable rise in the number of single mothers raising their children. Being a single mother is also one of the biggest women's issues. A single mother plays the role of both, the father and the mother, to her child. She tries hard to divide her time to fulfill all her duties as a mother and working woman. She strives to give the best to her child and also bring out the best in him; all single-handedly. A single mother has the toughest job of all mothers. A single mother’s struggles, the possible effects on the children, and society’s view of them are extra burdens placed upon them in their quest to raise successful children. Being a single mother is no easy job but many women succeed in motherhood.

Raising children is a challenge in itself. Mothers worry about making the best decisions for their children. They worry about keeping them safe and out of harm’s way. Mothers want the best for their children and for them to feel loved. Imagine doing all these things alone. Single mothers face many struggles in trying to raise children. In today’s society we see many single mothers but most of the time we don’t see all the trials they have to go through.
