Executive Summary
First of all we will start off with a brief outline of the company, its size, position in the market, its principal activities. Following this we will move onto factors which determine its market position. Following this we will look at how the company is perceived by consumers and what it provides to its main customers or what it promises.
In this essay we will be looking at the Toyota Motor Corporation, and how good operations management is central to the future sustainability of the company. We will be focusing on the organisation and its approaches to production, supply chain management and to answer the question:
Is this what differentiates Toyota from other automakers in the industry?
Toyota: Brief Outline
The Toyota Group has several subsidiaries; however we will be focusing on its most important which is the Toyota Motor Corporation. Toyota Motors is the world’s 11th largest company by revenue and the 3rd largest automotive manufacturer in the world. (USA Today, 2012). This however, only gives a small picture of the dominance by Toyota in the automotive industry, where it also co-owns many brands within the sector such as Lexus and by global sales is in the number 1 spot (Reuters, 2012).
