School Improvement Plan
For
XYZ School
2011-2012
Overview:
XYZ School is a sixth, seventh, and eight-grade public school established in 1950 that currently houses 680 students and 40 instructional staff members. It is a middle school in School District U-46 School District. XYZ is located in Elgin, Illinois.
In the district, the current enrollment consists of 94.7 percent Hispanic students, 1.4 Caucasian, 1.0 percent African-American, 2.2 percent Asian and 0.7 percent multiracial students.
The staff at XYZ includes: 35 teachers, 2 reading specialist, 3 special education teachers. Additional personal include the school principal and several others who provide services to the students.
Science –XYZ has made efforts to improve the science curriculum and instruction. We anticipate funding a middle school science camp, academically challenging student projects such as the research courses and support for our growing work with the Fermilab. Activity with Fermilab will rejuvenate XYZ with the arrival of a new director, and we anticipate participating in middle school research, mentorships, and unique projects through a grant won by the Fermilab. Students will learn first hand about nutrition, critical issues in production of food so prominent in the news these days, and the science of plants and plant growth.
In June 2011, three major goals were established for the XYZ Public Schools. These three goals continue to guide the improvement efforts of the XYZ Public Schools. They include:
GOAL STATEMENTS AND STANDARDS FOR 2011-2012
GOAL #1: Curriculum
Demonstrates effective communication by involving all stakeholders throughout the process
Standard #1: Facilitating a vision of learning
Learner outcome: Students will understand learning goals in a pluralistic society. [IPS; 1A]
