Interaction framework

Interaction Framework consists of four components, which are: System, User, Input and Output. Each of these components uses it’s own language. The System uses its core language, the User its tasks language, Input uses input language, and Output uses output language (Victor, 2006). The user has the responsibility to establish goals. This Framework is broken down into two phases. Each of these phases contains a set of steps.

The Execution phase consists of Articulation, where the user formulates a goal, which is then articulated using the input language. Performance, the input language is translated into the core language. Presentation, the system manifest the result of the core language operations using the output language. The Evaluation phase consists of Observation, where the user interprets the results on the screen and reconciles them with the original goal (Heim, 2008).

The Gulf of Evaluation

I will be performing a user interface evaluation of one of Apple’s most innovated device in the market today, the iPhone 4. We will talk about the primary function, actions that are possible with the device, the mapping from intention to physical movement, how to perform a desire action, expectations after the action is performed, how the system maps between the system state and the user interpretation of that state, and what state the system is in. We will focus on the primary function of the device.

Primary functions

The iPhone contains numerous functionalities. Among many of these functions, like browsing the internet, send and receive text messages, listen to music, read email, use a GPS, the primary function of the iPhone is plain and simple: To make and receive phone calls.
