During the past decade, there has been a renewed interest in prisoner reentry. This is due to a change in many of the factors surrounding the release of prisoners and their reentry to the community.(Richard P. Seiter, Karen R. Kadela)

By law if you are working in the prison as an inmate, you can work a day off your sentence and it is called work-time credit, but some inmates don’t care because they have something to get even with. Also if you don’t break anymore laws in the penal code, you get off what is called good-time credit. People don’t think how much time he or she will get then they commit a crime.

People are not thinking about getting caught and serving time. You have drug users that don’t think about going to jail because all they are looking for is that next hit of drugs. Crime can’t be resolved because there are people out in the streets that don’t care and just don’t have nothing to lose (Laurence Darmiento). Early release from jail or prison is a problem because of the overcrowded jails and prisons work for some people but not all. According to the (daily News) A Canyon Country man was charged Friday with stealing a $75 power tool - just 12 hours after being given early release from county jail for another theft conviction, officials said (Laurence Darmiento). [Craig] Hezel was charged Friday with the felony of petty theft with a prior conviction, which carries a possible prison term of 16 months to three years, officials said. He is expected to be arraigned Monday in Newhall Municipal Court. Hezel was released from the county jail's Inmate Reception Center in Los Angeles at 2 a.m. Thursday, 16 days after receiving a two-month jail term for a Feb. 21 petty theft conviction in Newhall Municipal Court, [Cynthia] Ulfig said(Laurence Darmiento).
