Social justice values human rights and the dignity of every human being. In the Parable of the Sadhu there are many ethical and moral questions raised that questions our judgment as individuals. You would assume it is a universal principle to do everything in your power to save someone who is struggling, but inconveniences in a lifetime experience for the hikers brings about questions of the boundaries of individual principles. This unexpected ethical dilemma left them questioning their values--and the values of business, which often places goal achievement ahead of other considerations.

Principles are used to make moral decisions based on what you believe most people would act in a similar situation. Most people would make the same choice if faced with a similar set of circumstances. Hiking in the Himalayas questioned the principles these people had because they came across Sadhu.

In addition to principles, values are used to develop norms and are socially enforced, but in the midst of a mountain hike, who is there to enforce such values? Without an authoritative figure in this harsh environment, values you believe to be true can suddenly become harder to abide by. Without being in the public eye, there social obligation to help this pilgrim lessened, because it is not like the decision on the mountain would have a negative impact on anyone who is a part of the Morgan Stanley Company.

Every organization has the potential for unethical behavior. Even though McCoy and his crew were not at the Morgan Stanley Company, McCoy questioned his decision to leave Sadhu because he placed his goal achievement ahead of other considerations, in this case, potentially a life. On this hike, they were doing initially what they thought was the greatest good for the greatest amount of people, a Utilitarian point of view.
