Braveheart Speech Analysis

Ethos(Credibility): Well credibility starts on the acknowledgement that he is William Wallace. Some of them figured he would be a much bigger man who slain so many men. He then uses levity to make then men laugh it off, and then in a blink of an eye he the reasserts who he is. That was his initial credibility asserting who he was. His derived credibility would come later in the words he speaks to relate to his countrymen. He makes it seem as he is one of them but he really not he’s the leader. His terminal credibility is at end of the speech where he rouses his men up with his final words about freedom. They then believe and start to chant with him.

Pathos(Emotional Appeal) The emotional appeal of this speech is tremendous. From the low tone Mel Gibson then the medial rousing tone he present when describing himself. His levity in the men and describing the seven foot William Wallace. He then rouses the crowd when he describe of their intentions of their freedom and how to obtain it. The ending of the speech Mel Gibson comes roaring with emotional and sacrifice saying the famous line from the movie” that they make take our lives, but they never will take our freedom. That alone gives the men all they need to fight and cheer for their leader.

Logos(Evidence and Reasoning). In the speech Mel Gibson reasons with the men. The reasoning of why they should stand and fight for their freedom and not run home and hide was spoken with fury by Mel Gibson. When the men say they will run and live Mel Gibson give them simple evidence that they may run but they wont live much longer. That fighting and dying for their country would leave a longer lasting effect on their enemy.
