There are several different factors that affect the health care system. The aging population, the baby boomers are getting older, retiring, and their health is declining due to aging. This age group needs more healthcare services today which affect the whole healthcare system. The payment of health care services; rather it is self-pay, private pay, or the different levels of government (local, federal, and state). Increase in health premiums, if the economic is not doing well these premiums are more than likely are going to rise. There is also a possibly of receiving lesser services to try and offset the cost. These are just a few factors that have helped shaped the healthcare to where it stands today.

A force that has affected the developmental of the health care system would be health insurance premiums. There has not been a solution to correcting the issues with the health care cost over the years. Understanding that has technology continues to grow within the medical field the cost will also rise to help pay for research and development, equipment, clinical studies, etc. Insurance companies are always finding a reason to raise the cost on the premiums. “When the Clinton administration took office in 1993, one of its first initiatives was an ambitious proposal to introduce federally regulated competition among managed care plans. The objective was to control premium prices while ensuring that the public had universal care, received quality care, and could choose freely among care providers” (Relman, 2003).
