Black hole – A bottomless pit in spacetime. Nothing can escape from within a black hole, and we can ever again detect or observe an object that falls into a black hole.
Escape velocity – speed necessary for an object to completely escape the gravity of a large body such as the moon, planet, or star.
Event horizon – the boundary that marks the “point of no return” between a black hole and the outside universe
Singularity – the place at the center of a black hole where, in principle gravity, crushes all matter to an infinitely tiny and dense point
Tidal force – a force that occurs when the gravity pulling on one side of an object is larger than that on the other side, causing the object to stretch
Spaghettification
Hawking radiation – radiation predicted to arise from the evaporation of a black hole
ALH84001 – asteroids thought to be fom mars
Panserpermia – life exits through the universe distributed by metoroids, asteroids, and planetoids
Bacteriophages -
E. Coli
Extremeophiles

Doppler Effect
Main Sequence – The prominent line of points running from the upper left to the lower right on the H-R diagram
Red Giant – a giant star that is red in color
Degenerate matter – an object such as a brown dwarf, white dwarf, or neutron star in which degeneracy pressure is the primary pressure pushing back against gravity
Black dwarf –
White dwarf- the hot, compact corpses of lowmass stars, typically with a mass similar to that of the sum compressed to a volume the size of the earth
Protostar- a forming star that has not yet reached the point where sustained fusion can occur in its core
Planetary nebulae – glowing cloud of gas ejected from a low-mass star at the end of its life
ionized – stripping an electron from its atom
sunspot cycle – the period of about 11 years over which the number of sunspots on the sun rises and falls
corona – the tenuous uppermost layer of the Sun’s...
