“Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell”

“A civilian and a Soldier will never reach the agreement over the matter of homosexuals in the military”, says David Goldich, a Quantico, Virginia- based defense analyst. I strongly agree with that statement because no matter how much the issue is talked about Americans will continue to back up what they say until they can prove what they believe in is right. Stubborn is the word for that. People need to wake up and realize, if it wasn’t for the ‘straights’ or ‘gays’, our Country wouldn’t be the way it is today—FREE. The concern over Gays and Lesbians in the military doesn’t bother me as it does others. What bothers me is the consistent upbringing of the situation. My philosophy is, whether you’re straight, gay, or both, as long as you’re helping me back home to my family and friends are all that matters. My position on this issue is mainly my point of view on how the topic of homosexuals being talked about over and over again is ridiculous and it is a waste of time. Why? Because there are more important things that need to be taken care of than the concerns about homosexuals being a part of the military. “The military exists to win wars”, says Goldich. “Its task is to stand, and if need be, to die, and to protect the very rights those proponents of repeal wish to force on it. In the long term, repealing “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” (DADT) probably portends little, if any, danger for our military, if done for the right reasons. This debate is about the fighting effectiveness of the U.S. military, and, in particular, those who predominantly fight”.
