To Drill or not to Drill?

Here in the United States we have witness the worst oil spill in the history of America but no one has put a stop to the drilling. It leaves me wondering when the Government and BP going to start the next project are. To my understanding there was a payment that was made for the amount of 20 billion dollars that gave the go for drilling. Many Americans are looking forward to Obama’s efforts to free America from the dependency of foreign oil. Here in the United State seem to have one of the largest consumers of oil and enough resources to secure the energy supply. I believe that if we are given the opportunity to explore our resources it can be achieved. President Obama alternatives for new energy could take years before they are in place and yet many Americans are without jobs because of the new approach on green jobs. The key goal of the United States since World War I was to maintain access to the great oil-producing areas for a sufficient supply of oil ( Advameg, Inc., 2011).   According to EIA (2011) “the Western Hemisphere nations provide about half our imported petroleum” Our foreign oil dependency affects our economy in several ways: It provides jobs to citizens of another country and it creates a deficient debt for a natural resource that we have right here in our own country.
