1.0 Introduction

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) consists of seven states which are Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. Abu Dhabi is the capital city in the United Arab Emirates. Besides, Dubai divides the city in two main parts: Deira district to its north and Bur Dubai on its south. And, in1996, the recovery of oil led to a rapid of economic growth. So, due to the high revenues generated from petroleum and natural gas industries, Dubai become the richest Middle Eastern country. In contrast, due to the declining of the oil prices, the government has attempted to diversify the national economy. Hence, Dubai’s economy is estimated to be worth over 40 billion euro from tourism, business and the Jebel Ali free zone authority (JAFZA) (Dubai Background, nd).

In addition, 60 percent of the Dubai’s population was mainly formed by migrant workers (National Geographic, nd). These workers are mostly from South Asia and Southeast Asia. Besides, the laborers received only $175 per month on average, and lives in a labor camp far outside the town (Dowdey,S., nd). Most of the migrant laborers are involved in the construction like building skyscrapers and artificial islands. This causes Dubai’s rich to borrow from finance when there is a speculative construction boom. When inflation hits, 35 billion pound of debts cannot be paid by Dubai World. Many migrant workers will also lose their jobs (Socialist Worker Online, 2009). Hence, Dubai will have high unemployment rate among the migrant and its own citizens.

Furthermore, now that the boom has gone bust, both in Dubai and in the United States, Dubai is stuck with a glut of real estate that no one wants to buy or rent. In addition, the impact of Dubai crisis caused its own country, like the luxury hotels are three-quarters empty and there is a substantial drop in sales in the newly built malls.
