1. Introduction
With the process of global integration strengthening constantly; the communication between different nations is increasing day by day. Nowadays, China has become a super power within the whole world, and it is still developing fast. In the meantime, more and more businesspeople around the world have seen opportunities available in mainland China. For this reason, joint venture becomes a major form of corporations in China. As a result, intercultural communication is significant in business life and operations, and it is essential to know the differences among different cultures in order to behave properly.
This report will discuss the similarities and differences between Chinese and British culture, and demonstrate which categories these cultures fall under. This could be used as a guide on how to operate well in international business operations.
2. Methodology
This report is secondary research, which aims to make a comparison between the different cultures in China and the United Kingdom. The analysis is based on the following theories: Geert Hofstede’s Five Dimensions of National Cultural (1980), Edward Hall’s High Context and Low Context Cultures (1976), and Verbal and Non-Verbal Communication.
