“Drugs stop AIDS. Take your Medicine.”

1. Do you agree that medicine should be forced onto patients?

I think you can argue both sides, if people are being irresponsible and spreading the disease that’s not fair to the rest of the population but most people wouldn’t do that, so to force medicine onto everyone because of that select group is unfair.

2. Is it ever ethical to force someone onto medication, for example “Kendra’s Law”? I think when it comes to the betterment of society and there are dangerous people purposely spreading a disease to harm others then actions should be taken against those people.

3. What do you think is the difference between this situation now vs. in the 1980s? I think back then it was a new and scary epidemic that no one knew how it was going to be treated but today there are medications and help offered to people who have it so we should be less likely to force people onto medication.

“Stigma and Promoting Mental Health”

1. How would you relate mental illness stigma to the AIDS article?

I think this article on stigmas and mental health is similar because there’s a stigma against people with AIDS, they’re viewed as lower beings or gay, etc.

2. Why do you think direct interaction is the best way for people to get over their stigmas? I think that seeing for yourself that people in recovery aren’t like what they picture as someone who is mentally ill so I think the program “Put Up Your New Glasses” is a great idea and way to help people get over their stigmas.

3. What do you think is worse, stigmas against ones own mental health or the mental health of others? When someone refuses to get themselves help because of a stigma that often ends in the worst possible outcome, suicide. And when people have stigmas against others they judge them and that may make them feel worse about their mental health, either way putting someone else down and not giving yourself treatment over a stigma is not good which is why these programs are so...
