Abstract

This paper explores the first 6 chapters of the titled book “Data Communications and Computer Networks” as it relates to computer network technology within an organization. As there are many different steps that can be taken to ensure the proper network technology is implemented within an organization. This paper will examine type of local and wireless area network, network architecture, interfacing, and error detection, when it comes to network technology development.

Important computer networking technology within an organization

In many organizations the basic computer network setup consists of personal computers or laptops that are connected to a modest file server. However when it comes to the importance of a computer networking technology for an organization, a deeper search has to be taken into account to ensure that the purpose of that organization is met through the selection of the network. In developing this structure the network layout that would most commonly be used to ensure the right purpose for an organization would be the microcomputer to local area network layout. This layout is used in many organizations based on a client/server concept, and is needed to ensure that information is provided throughout the organization via an access point or bridge.

As an organization goes through its phase of selecting the best technology to fit its primary purpose, the use of a LAN or WLAN can be another important factor to take into account. As many organizations use the standard LAN layout to meet its end state, the use of WLAN has become more popular due to its flexibility, increased productivity, and cost effectiveness. The combination of both network layouts can be implemented to ensure that local users and users who may work from different locations have that same capability.

Network Architecture or communication model would be another area for an organization to consider when developing its network. The implementation of a...
