Common Internet Operating Systems

We are all familiar with operating systems for our personal computers, such as Microsoft Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X; making it possible to keep up with daily tasks and manages our paperwork at home and most certainly at work. It has gotten to the point that we don’t know how to function if the power goes out or if the system is down. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been turned away at my local McDonald’s because their computer system is down. No one knows how sell a product these days using a pen and paper or just a simple hand held calculator. We rely on the computer to make sure we’ve processed a sell correctly and it even tells us how much change to give back to our customers and instills a sense of confidence in us that without it our computer and operating systems we seem to cringe and freeze up. Even turn customers away; quite different from my parents’ generation where all they knew was the pen and paper; and occasionally they had the benefit of the old register were the buttons look like Lego blocks; quite different from today’s reality.

Today we have the benefit of the internet, smart phones and ipads that seem to magically pull up the world at our fingertips. We can even use these devices directly to make a sell or purchase something. It is amazing how far we’ve come with computer technology in my lifetime alone, I can only imagine where we will be at when my daughter has children of her own. But, have you ever wondered where the magic comes from? How does the knowledge of the World Wide Web come to my smart phone within seconds with just a touch of a tiny picture icon on the screen? I do believe I have a love affair with my smart phone and I wonder what would happen if it was gone; I don’t like dwelling on that thought for too long, it would be a huge adjustment for me.
